Chief Executive of the English Premier League, EPL, Richard Masters has disclosed that the league would not support the purported plans by the United Kingdom, UK, authorities to place a ban on shirts sponsorship by betting companies.

Masters opined that gambling and football share a historic relationship, adding that the league regulatory body would, however, collaborate with the authorities towards the forth-coming review of the 2005 gambling laws.

He explained that the league does not partner with betting companies, saying the issue of shirt sponsorship is purely a business relationship between the clubs and their sponsors.

According to him, the clubs reserve the rights to determine who their shirt sponsors are.

He added that EPL clubs have been complying with set out regulations, hence the league would protect their interests.
