…Urges C’Riverians’ Total Support For Gov
Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the March 18, 2023 governorship election in Cross River State, Senator Sandy Onor, has sent a message of congratulations to the state governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, on the validation of their election by the Supreme Court.
Onor, who was convincingly defeated in the 2023 Cross River governorship poll, widely acknowledged to have been conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had gone to the tribunal to challenge Otu’s victory. He lost at every stage up to the Supreme Court, which delivered its judgement on Friday, January 12, 2024.
The apex court upheld the rulings of the tribunal and Appeal Court earlier given in favour of Otu.
In his congratulatory message to the duo of Otu and Odey, personally signed by him, Senator Onor said, “On the 12th of January, 2024, the Supreme Court in her judgement confirmed the election of Senator Bassey Edet Otu as governor of Cross River State.
“I write, most sincerely, to congratulate the governor and his deputy, Rt. (Hon.) Peter Odey for the successful journey from the primaries, through the main election and leading to the final declaration at the Supreme Court, which typifies the entire gamut of every election cycle.
“On behalf of my entire team, I lavishly thank all those who believed in and stood by us; the clergy, across the Catholic and Protestant aisle; youths, elders, men and women; party faithful across the three senatorial districts and even across parties and all those who shared in our genuine yearnings and aspirations for the development of Cross River State.
“I thank, in particular, The Caterpillar Movement, in all its multi-facetted dimensions and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ably led by the irrepressible Barrister Venatius Ikem, for their support, prayers and resilience throughout the period of this struggle to make Cross River State, a destination of excitement and splendour, as well as an oasis of security and development.
“We call on all and sundry to give His Excellency, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, and those who work with him, all the support, advice and prayers that they would need to make Cross River State the dream homeland that we would all cherish.
