The Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved N95.8 billion for the reconstruction and dualisation of the Akure/Ita-Ogbolu-Iju/Ado-Ekiti road, linking Ekiti State to Ondo State.

The approval was announced by the Minister of State for Works and Housing, Umar El-Yakub, after the council meeting chaired by President Muhammed Buhari.

The road, linking between the two states, can be said to increase the production and availability of certain agricultural products and boost the economic scale in the area of agriculture, with both states well known for their agricultural prowess.

The construction of the road was in favour of two companies, with a stipulated timeframe for completion.

Section one of the road, which is on the Ondo State end, was awarded to Messrs Samchez Nigeria Limited and Messrs Horizon Construction Company Limited in the sum of N46,684,481,745.55, with a completion period of 24 months.

Section two of the construction, on the Ekiti State end of the road, was awarded to Messrs Kopek Construction Limited at the cost of N49,295,088,593.98, with a completion period of 30 months.

This reconstruction would be beneficial to both states in the area of growth and development of commerce and as a stepping stone to more opportunities for the states, people and country.
