The Technical Committee for the Prevention of COVID -19 in Taraba State has called on the people of the state to ignore the rumour making the rounds that the state has recorded positive cases of the dreaded coronavirus.

Chairman of the committee and the state  Commissioner for Health, Dr Innocent Vakkai, disclosed this at a press briefing in Jalingo, on Tuesday.

Stating that all the results of the suspected cases from the state have returned negative to the virus, Vakkai explained that as part of efforts to ensure that the state was free from the pandemic, all land borders in the state have been closed, while immigration officers at the border with the Cameroon Republic have been directed to ensure thorough screening of people, if they must cross.

The Commissioner for Health urged the people of Taraba to maintain and respect all rules that guard against the spread of the virus and support the steps taken by government to maintain zero record of COVID-19 case in the state.

He said, “Government will continue to sensitize the people on the need to maintain personal hygiene, which is key in the prevention of the pandemic.

“So far, government has provided hand sanitizers to hospitals and the two religious bodies in the state, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN and the Muslim Council for onward distribution to their members.”
