Popular group of supporters and advocates of good governance in Lagos State, Sanwo-Olu Vanguard, has expressed the delight over the television interview granted on Monday by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa, where he stated with emphasis that, neither he nor the House of Assembly was at war with the executive governor of the state, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

The convener of the Sanwo-Olu Vanguard, Comrade Adekunle Adeosun, stated this in a statement he personally signed and made available to the media in Lagos on Tuesday.

He stated in the statement that “since the spe5aker has said that it is part of parliamentary procedure to reject certain nominees and that it is also a norm to accept the names back, if strong reasons were given and clarifications done.”

Against this backdrop, the group therefore encouraged the governor, who is known to be a peace lover, to represent the names, while strongly enjoining the Speaker to reconsider the dropped nominees, just as it looks forward to seeing the team work together again in a such a way that has brought the state to this enviable point.

Adeosun said, “Our fears and concerns was the set back and negative effect the friction between the executive and the legislative arms of government would have if such seeming crisis is not nipped in the bud at the embryonic stage.”

He therefore called on all well-meaning Nigerians, especially, party elders, senior citizen in the state as well as members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, to intervene to make sure that “even if there is no fight according to Obasa, fight should be prevented from happening.”

Recall that trending in Lagos currently is the news and speculation going round the town that there is no love lost between Governor Sanwo-Olu and the honourable Speaker of the House of Assembly, Obasa, which was insinuated to lead to the refusal of the House to clear 17 out of 39 cabinet nominees forwarded to the House by the governor.

The development has put a lot of stakeholders and the generality of the people on edge with the fear that if the hitherto synergy between the two arms is broken, the whole state and beyond would be adversely affected.

However, the Vanguard has expressed confidence that “now that Speaker Obasa has allayed the fears of the populace that no fight has ever started, let alone being quenched, the merry goes on.”

The Vanguard subsequently urged it’s principal, the governor, Sanwo-Olu to re-forward the names and back it up with solid evidence and wide consultation that would convince the honourable House that “we are all on the same page for the betterment of Lagos and its good people.”
