A human right organization, the Youth Advocacy Initiative, YAI, has given the Honourable Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, a pat on the back over the assurance he gave that his colleagues in the legislative arm of government would keep supporting the executive arm of the government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

In a proposed N1.388 trillion budget for year 2022, presented to the Lagos State House of Assembly on Wednesday, Governor Sanwo-Olu said that the state would be spending N325 billion to deliver vital infrastructure projects in key sectors to energise and expand the growth of the state’s economy.

YAI Convener, Comrade Adekunle Akinde, in a statement in Ikorodu on Thursday expressed the belief that, the Lagos State House of Assembly, would walk its talk of its promise to cooperate with the executive arm to ensure quick passage of the budget proposals to allow the governor hit the ground running next year, saying, “The people appreciated the House’s cooperative conduct over the 2021 budget handling, which led to good fiscal performance this year.

Speaking against the background of the Speaker’s remarks while receiving the 2022 budget proposals from the governor, on Wednesday, when he pledged more legislative cooperation and support for the executive “with a view to achieving all its outlined objectives in the 2022 fiscal year for the benefit of the good and patriotic people of the state,” the group noted with satisfaction, the cordial relationship and the executive/legislative harmony existing between the two important arms of government in the state; insisting that this has been the reason for the rapid development the state has been witnessing.

It therefore called for more of it so that Lagos would continue to maintain its leadership status among the comity of states in the country.

Recall that Governor Sanwo-Olu presented a proposed budget of N1.388 trillion for year 2022 to the state House of Assembly on Wednesday, where he informed that the state would be spending N325 billion to deliver vital infrastructure projects in key sectors to energise and expand the growth of the state’s economic sector.

YAI further stated in the statement that the priority accorded to the development of infrastructure and education by the Sanwo-Olu administration was of great acceptance, pointing out that “as the infrastructure drive the economy, education also plays a leading role in the development and empowerment of the youth, who are the leaders of tomorrow.”

The statement therefore expressed the need for the people to maximise their support for the governor and the 40-member House of Assembly to encourage them to continue working in harmony in the best interest of the people and residents of the state.
