Prof. Ibrahim Gambari on Wednesday morning arrived the Presidential Villa, Abuja, preparatory to his resumption as the new Chief of Staff, CoS, to President Muhammadu Buhari.

He replaces the late Abba Kyari, Buhari’s CoS, who succumbed to the cold hands of death as a result of COVID-19-related complications last month.

Gambari, a former External Affairs Minister is expected to participate in the first virtual meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, since the lockdown of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja and Lagos and Ogun states, presided over by President Buhari.

There were speculations about Gambari’s appointment as Kyari’s replacement on Tuesday, May 12; just as the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Mai-Martaba Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Professor Gambari as his new CoS.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, Alhaju Sulu-Gambari described Gambari’s appointment as a great honour done to the entire people of Ilorin Emirate and Kwarans at large.

Prof Gambari, External Affairs Minister between 1984 and 1985, was the first United Nations’ UN, Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Africa.
