An overly drunken policeman, Okema Azuquo, has killed his superior, an Inspector, Francis Adekunle, following the deceased’s intervention when he launched a machete attack on co-tenants in a tenement building in Lagos.

The deceased, who until his death was of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) 2, Ikeja, was gravely stabbed by his junior for preventing him from attacking other tenants.

It was learnt that the alcoholic sergeant had become a nuisance to neighbours, harassing them always after getting drunk.

As usual o the fateful day, Azuquo after being drunk to stupor, picked a machete and started chasing other tenants at No. 8, Dosunmu St., Agbelekale Oke-Odo in Agege area of the city.

In the process, he injured a tenant and was poised to kill him when Adekunle intervened and tried to wrest the machete from him, according to an eye witness, who pleaded anonymity.

He said, “The drunk descended on Inspector Adekunle and inflicted several machete cuts on his body. He was rushed to a hospital where he was confirmed dead on Monday.”

Meanwhile, the killer-cop has been arrested and is currently in detention at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Yaba.

Lagos State Police Command spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana, who confirmed the incident, said the killer-sergeant was already in custody, adding that the state Police Commissioner, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered full scale investigation into the matter.
