•NWC Meets Tuesday; Emergency NEC Heeting Wednesday To Ratify Timetable/Schedule Of Activities For Primaries

The National Working Committee, NWC, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, will, ahead of the 2023 elections, has rolled out the timetable and schedule of activities for its primaries for all elective positions, with its presidential primary proposed for May 30/31 in Abuja.

Governorship primary election is however scheduled to hold on May 23.

Subsequently, an emergency meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee, NEC, has been fixed for next Wednesday in Abuja to ratify the timetable and schedule of activities.

The NWC of the APC is also scheduled to meet on Tuesday, in Abuja.

Meanwhile, the party has informed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in an official letter to its Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, dated April 6 and signed by the APC National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore, informed the electoral umpire of the dates and schedule of its primaries for the nomination of candidates for the 2023 elections.

The letter stated that primary elections for states’ Houses of Assembly is scheduled for May 11, while the House of Representatives will take place on May 16. Primary election for Senate will hold on May 18, while governorship primary will take place on May 23. A national convention to elect the party’s presidential candidate will hold on May 30/31.

Omisore stated in the letter to Yakubu, “This serves as a formal notification, pursuant to the provisions of Section 85 of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended. Kindly arrange for your officials to monitor the exercise accordingly. While hoping to receive your cooperation, please accept the assurances of my highest esteem.”

CompassNG reliably gathered that the ruling party would commence the sale of forms for the various elective positions from April 22 to May 7.

It was further gathered the Expression of Interest, EoI, form costs N500,000, while the Nomination Form will cost N1, 500,000 for states Houses of Assembly.

Aspirants for the House of Representatives will cough out N1 million for EoI and N4 million for the Nomination Form, while those vying for the Senate will pay N2 million for EoI and N8 million for Nomination Form.

For governorship aspirants, EoI costs N5 million and Nomination Form goes for N25 million.
For the Presidency, EoI is N million while Nomination Form is N40 million.

Aspirants who have indicated interest to contest for the APC presidential include: former governor of Lagos State and National Leader of the party, Bola Tinubu; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha; governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi; governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello; the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; and Mr. Ihechukwu Chima.

CompassNG scooped that the elected delegates for the party’s last national convention would be used for the presidential primary, due to exigency of time.

Meanwhile, the APC NEC announced yesterday that it would hold an emergency meeting next on Wednesday in Abuja, “to consider the party’s timetable/schedule of activities for primaries for the nomination of candidates for the 2023 general election and other relevant business of the party.”

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, in a statement made available to the media said that the emergency NEC meeting would take place at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja and would commence at 10am.

The statement reads, “The All Progressives Congress, APC, National Working Committee, NWC, has called the maiden post-National Convention meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC, to be held on Wednesday, 20th April, 2022.

“The emergency NEC meeting, which will take place at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja will commence at 10am.

“Pursuant to Article 25.2.ii of the Constitution of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the National Working Committee, NWC, hereby invites members of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of our great partyto a meeting to consider the party’s Timetable/Schedule of Activities for Primaries for the nomination of candidates for the 2023 General Elections and other relevant business of the party.

“All members of the NEC are by this invitation to take notice of the meeting in accordance with Article 12.3 of the APC Constitution, please.”
