…One Shot Dead In Ogoja LGA

About seven vehicles said to be owned by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, were on Friday set ablaze by thugs suspected to have been sponsored by an opposition party in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Similarly, a young man is already report dead in Idung Mbube ward, Ogoja Local Government Area of the state, after engaging himself in a heated aurgument with a soldier who was on election duty in the area.

An eye witness, Mr. Felix Ukoh, told our correspondent that trouble began when the young man engaged himself in a heated argument with the soldier, who felt so challenged and opened fire on the deceased, leading to his death.

Speaking in a telephone chat with our correspondent, the Commissioner of Police in-charge of Elections in Cross River State, Mr. Garba Aliyu, stated, “Yes it’s true, he was shot dead by a soldier, but I don’t have the details yet.”

Commenting on the burnt vehicles, an eye witness, Pamela, (surname witheld) told our correspondent that the vehicles were attacked after the attackers laid ambush at Okut-Ikang/Akpap area, Odukpani Local Government Area in the state and got the vehicles not only vandalized but set ablaze, shooting one of the females occupants of the vehicles on her stomach.

Reacting to the attack, the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Sandy Onor, described the attack as pathetic and barbaric.

Onor called on electorates not to be deterred or demoralized due to the incident and called on members of the PDP to come out enmasse and get the All Progressives Congress, APC, which he alledged had mis-governed the nation’s resources voted out from office.

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Irene Ugbo, who was contacted on telephone stated that the command was yet to receive any official complaint on the incident.
