A non-governmental organization, Yoruba Radical Assembly, YRA, has appealed to residents of Lagos State to intensify the compliance with all the preventive measures spelt out by the authorities to curb the third coming of the dreaded disease known as coronavirus.

Recall that some of the measures put in place by the government include, but not limited to: limiting the number of people at any gathering, avoidance of unnecessary body contact, observing hygienic behaviour, like washing of hands, using of sanitizers and covering of nose and mouths with correct mask, among other protocols.

In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Comrade Adekunle Adeosun, the YRA reminded that it took the ingenuity of the Lagos State governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to save the state, and by extension, the whole country, from catastrophe the monster was bringing in through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, which is majorly the entry point to the country.

Against this backdrop, the group urged the residents to augment the governor’s good gesture towards their wellbeing by complying with the stated preventive measures, saying that “Sanwo-Olu deserves to be assisted and cooperated with to enjoy life in abundance.”

Asserting that the task of making the environment conducive for the wellbeing of the citizenry is a collective responsibility of all and sundry and not the sole duty of the government, YRA warned that complacence could be dangerous.

It added, “We therefore advise our military, all the security and para-military agencies, civil society organizations, CSOs, religious leaders, social organizations and all non-oovernmental organisations, NGOs, to create awareness and enforcement of the measures. A stitch in time saves nine and prevention is better and cheaper than cure.”

YRA further emphasize on the need for more education and enlightenment for the populace, even as it called for unity and harmony from all public office holders, like what the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola did sometimes ago in the video that has gone viral on ways to tackle the pandemic.

The group also reinforced its earlier threat to document and pass to the government at various levels, all the groups, institutions and individuals that refuse to comply with the government directives and demand immediate sanctions for such defiance.

In conclusion, the YRA also expressed the need for all the 774 local government areas in the country to roll out programmes of intervention, just as it enjoined the governments to close up with their neighbouring regions through alliance and cooperation with the border by exchanging programmes, sharing of knowledge and experience needed for the war against the deadly virus, agreeing that, “If we are united, Coronavirus will be defeated completely.”
