The lawmaker representing Nasarawa South senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, on Thursday inaugurated solar-powered electricity projects in public secondary schools across the five local government areas of the senatorial zone.
This was even as the same gesture was extended by the Senator Al-Makura to some communities in the senatorial zone.
Inaugurating the projects on behalf of SenatorAl-Makura, Ambassador designate, Henry Omaku, stated that the initiative to provide the solar-power electricity system in the senatorial zone was borne out of the senator’s desire to give the people at the rural areas some sense of belonging.
Omaku therefore called called on the beneficiaries to take ownership of the projects and ensure that they serve the purpose they were meant for.
Responding on behalf of traditional rulers of the senatorial zone, the Osoho of Olosoho, Dr. Umar Abubakar Apeshi, said Senator Al-Makura has done enough to the people of his zone, especially in the provision of boreholes, construction of schools and installation of solar street lights among others.
Also speaking separately, the principal of Federal Government Girls College, Keana, Hajiya Aishatu Muhammed, whose school is also a beneficiary of the project, said the solar-powered electricity system would go a long way in addressing epileptic power supply and check insecurity in the school.
The benefitting communities and schools are: Azara, Adudu, Agwatashi, Arikya, GGSS, Keana and GGSS Doma.
The benefitting communities, who couldn’t hide their joy, thanked Senator Al-Makura for the gesture and called on other elected and appointed representatives to emulate him.
