No fewer than 60 per cent of the targeted residents of Oyo State have been enrolled into the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, BHCPF, scheme.

This was disclosed by the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency, OYSHIA, through its Executive Secretary, Dr. Sola Akande, on Tuesday, in Ibadan.

Dr. Akande further revealed that the agency has reviewed upwards the number of enrollees for the BHCPF, to accommodate more residents of the state.

The Executives Secretary said, “The Basic Health Care Provision Fund, BHCPF, is financed through one per cent of Federal Government Consolidated Revenue given to states that have fulfilled certain laid down guidelines.”

Akande said that the BHCPF was initially aimed at capturing 37,500 indigenes, which include the aged, children under age five, the physically challenged and pregnant women across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State.

He, however, revealed that so far, about 22,018 persons have been enrolled into the scheme.

The OYSHIA boss said that the agency is currently enrolling more persons, adding that the reviewed figure now stands at 65,000 persons.

He hinted that this is part of the Engr Seyi Makinde-led Oyo State government’s commitment to deliver on universal health care, UHC, services through the provision of a Basic Minimum Package of Health Services, BMPHS, and emergency medical treatment.

Dr. Akande also assured successful enrollees that they can access healthcare without paying out-of-pocket through the ID card issued to them by the agency.

The BHCPF’s primary objective is to help achieve UHC coverage and enhance access to primary health care services for Oyo State residents, especially the poor and the vulnerable, women, children under age five, and children in orphanages.
