During the ceremony, the Managing Director of the NEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, stated that the 54-kilometre road was awarded to open up the communities and improve socio-economic development as peace returns.

Assuring that the project will be executed within the contractual time frame agreed upon, Goni added that, with relative peace witnessed in the region, the commission is now focusing on how best to provide conducive environment for learning, hence the sum of ₦21.6 billion would be spent on construction of mega schools, well equipped in each of the senatorial Districts in the six states of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi and Taraba states.

In his address, the governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, disclosed that “this intervention from the Federal Government is coming when the people living in the area are in dire needs of social infrastructures.”

He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for making sure the commission takes up with the mandate of improving the general wellbeing of the north easterners.

Buni urged the good people of the state to always cooperate with the officials of the commission to ensure better implementation of projects across the state.
