…Varsity Commiserates With Familiies

Two people have been confirmed dead in a fatal auto crash, involving two vehicles on the campus of the University of Ilorin on Monday night.

This reporter was told that the drivers of the crashed vehicles died on the spot, while their passengers who sustained various degrees of severe injuries, including fractures, are receiving treatments at the university’s Teaching Hospital, UITH.

It was said that the vehicles; a small bus, known as ‘korope,’ and a private car allegedly collided while on high speed at a spot very close to the institution’s earth dam site.

One of the drivers in the private car was said to be a woman with her two children as co-occupants, while the other was a commercial driver, driving a vehicle carrying off-campus students who were possibly going to the campus to read overnight in the class.

The students as well as the chidren of the deceased car driver were said to still he in the hospital receiving various degrees of treatments as at Tuesday night when this reporter checked

Also, the registration numbers of the two vehicles were yet not known, because they had been removed immediately it was discovered that the two drivers died on the spot, to avoid the wide shocks it might cause on their families and loved ones.

Meanwhile, the management of the the University of Ilorin, had in a press statement, expressed shock over the auto accident and in particular, its fatality.

Director, Corporate Affairs of the institution, Mr. Kunle Akogun, in a statement said, “The management of the University of Ilorin received with sadness, the news of the unfortunate auto accident that occurred on campus on Monday evening.

“The said accident resulted in some fatalities, while some occupants of the cars involved also sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“We commiserate with the parents of the deceased and beseech Almighty God to comfort them in this trying period. We also condole with the entire student body of the university on the sad loss of their colleagues.

“Management also wishes the injured quick and total recovery. We hereby enjoin all vehicle users to strictly abide by traffic rules and regulations, especially, as they concern speed limit.”
