The incumbent governor of Gombe State and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the March 18 gubernatorial election, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has been declared the winner of the governorship election.

The Independent Natıonal Electoral Commission, INEC, Returning Officer for Gombe State, Maimuna Waziri, announced that Yahaya polled 342,821 votes to beat his closest rival and the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Jibrin Barde, who came second with 233,131 votes.

He candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Khamisu Mailantarki, came a distant third with 19,861 votes, while the candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Keftin Amuga, polled 1,753 votes.

In coasting to victory, Yahaya won in nine out of the 11 local government areas of the state.
