…Ogunjimi Babes Pip Team Adebiyi 1-0

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, of the Polytechnic, Ibadan, on Wednesday kick-started it’s week with football matches at the North Campus of the institution.

The competition, tagged: ‘Prince Peters Adeyemi Competition,’ in honour of the National General Secretary of NASU, Prince Peters Adeyemi.

Four teams are billed to participate in the competition and they include: Dr. N. A. Adebayo Team, Mr. Olawole Ojetola Team, Prof. Kaseem Adebiyi Team, named after the Rector of the Polytechnic, Ibadan; and Ogunjimi Babes.

In the first match of the day, Team Adebayo confronted Team Ojetola in the first match on Wednesday, while Team Adebiyi sparred Ogunjimi Babes in the second match of the day.

The ceremonial kick-off of the competition was performed by the Deputy Rector of the Polytechnic, Ibadan, Mrs Biodun Olubamiwa, who represented the Rector, Prof. Kaseem Adebiyi.

In a chat with CompassNG after the traditional kick-off of the competition, the Deputy Rector testified to the cordial relationship that exists between the polytechnic management and the institution’s chapter of NASU.

She said, “We have a cordial relationship and we can only wish that we continue in that manner.

“If you know the emphasis the Rector placed on my coming here to represent him, you will appreciate the level of cordiality that exist between management and NASU.

“Even when I told him I was unaware, he insisted that I must come here to represent him, since he was unavoidably absent.”

While wishing the Polytechnic Ibadan NASU a successful week, Mrs Olubamiwa said, “NASU Ibadan Polytechnic has always contributed their quota to the development of the institution and I wish they would continue without relenting. We cannot but have our differences, but when we always for those differences to be resolved amicably, everything works out. Once again, I wish them a successful week.”

Team Ojetola overcame the resilience of Team Adebayo with a lone goal, scored in the 32nd minute by Samson Olaniyi Ojo; while another 40th-minute goal by Team Ojetola was disallowed by the referee.

Ogunjimi Babes also ran away with a lone goal victory over Team Adebiyi. Temitope Fagbemi scored the only game of the match in the 20th minute of the first half.

On Thursday, November 17, the second leg of the competition will take place with Team Ojetola playing host to Team Adebayo and Ogunjimi Babes playing host to Team Adebiyi.

The competition will come to an end on Tuesday, November 22, when the finals will come up; while the semi finals will be played on Monday, November 21.

Winners of the two-legged encounters will meet in the finals to decide the champions, while losers will square up for the bronze medal.
