An inferno, allegedly caused by leaked gas has razed a story building along Ede Road, Ile Ife, occupied by students of Obafemi Awolowo University.

The Osun State Fire Service, while confirming the incident, said the fire was caused by leaked gas, while one of the occupants was cooking.

The Administrative Officer of Osun State Fire Service, Fatai Aremu, said the men of Ife unit of the Fire Service were informed of the incident late Tuesday, adding that they battled to put out the fire for several hours.

Aremu said over N15 million worth properties were lost to the fire incident, while properties saved were worth over N100 million.

He said, “No casualty. The building is owned by an individual, but OAU students are the occupants. We were alerted of the incident late Tuesday and we battled it for several hours.”

Man Bagged 3-year Jail Term For Forging Court Stamps

A 55-year-old man, Adelakin Adeniyi, has been convicted and sentenced to three years jail term for forging court stamps.

Adeniyi, upon arraignment on January 9, 2019 had pleaded not guilty to two-count of conspiracy and forgery preferred against him.

However, when Adeniyi appeared before the court on February 4, he changed his plea and pleaded guilty.

Addressing the court, the prosecutor, Joseph Adebayo, said Adeniyi, committed the offences on December 10, 2018 at Ile-Ife.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant conspired with others still at large to commit the forgery.

He further explained that the defendant forged High Court Affidavit stamp, Ife East Local Government Marriage Registry Stamp and stamp of Osun State Magistrates’ Court, Ile-Ife.

The offences contravened Sections 465, 467 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

In her judgement, Magistrate Habibat Basiru, sentenced Adeniyi to three years imprisonment without option of fine.
