The Muslim community in Cross River State has reaffirmed their support for the governorship standard-bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, saying their block vote will be for him.

The Ummah made their position known when the APC governorship candidate met with the enlarged Muslim leadership, led by the Head of Hausa/Fulani and Muslim community, Alhaji Sarki Garuba Lawan, and others in Calabar, the state capital.

The Muslim community leader, alongside the women wing of the group, used the period to pray for the victory the APC gubernatorial flag bearer, maintaining that “Otu victory is for the betterment of the Ummah in Cross River State.”

The leaders – the Sarkin Hausa/Fulani of Calabar Municipality, Sanni Baba Gombe, Sheik Abdulkadir Bature, and Sheik Bashir Abuga, as well as the leadership of the state Council of Imams and Scholars – who spoke at the event, said that support for the continuity agenda of the APC-led government will help to promote democratic dividends and good governance in Cross River State.

The women wing, led by the Ameerah and chairperson of Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria, FOMWAN, Hajia Lateefah Yahaya Idinye, prayed for peaceful election come Saturday March 11, 2023.

Responding, the APC gubernatorial candidate said that the socio-economic and political contributions of the Muslim community in the state cannot be overemphasized.

Otu called on members of the Muslim community, who are of voting age to go out and vote in their numbers for the APC on Saturday.

He assured the Ummah that all their requests and the challenges facing them in the community will be looked into when he is elected, promising that the annual Hajj sponsorship will top some of his basic agenda for the Muslim community in Cross River State.
