The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the just concluded 2023 gubernatorial elections in Cross River State, Senator(Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, was on Mo day declared the governor-elect of the state.

Senator Otu emerged governor-elect after polling 258,619 votes to defeat the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Sandy Ojang Onor, who garnered 179,636 and 10 other candidates who participated in the contest.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Teddy Charles, who declared the results at the Mike Igini Conference Hall at the Independent Natıonal Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Calabar, said, “That Otu, Bassey Edet of the APC, having satisfied the provisions of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”

The academic don revealed that 1,766,466 voters were registered for the elections, whearas the number of accredited voters stood at 466,294.

Chareles, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Otuoke, stressed that valid votes for the governorship election stood at 451,933 votes, while 460,856 were cast, with a total of 8,923 invalid votes.
