COVID-19: Use Of Face Masks Now Compulsory In Kano

Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Sunday directed that the use of face masks in the state be enforced by security operatives.

Ganduje gave the directives during a media parley to update journalists on the situation of the pandemic in the state, lamenting that some residents have continued to violate the social distancing order.

The governor also lamented the laxity of security agents in the enforcement of compliance of the lockdown directive among residents.

The governor also disclosed that several meetings have been held with security chiefs in the state to fashion out how best to ensure that people wear face masks and observe social distancing.

Earlier, the state COVID-19 Taskforce chairman, Nasiru Gawuna warned residents of the to desist from using rapid testing kits, explaining that the kit has not been certified for use by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

He added that the state government will fumigate all densely populated communities within the metropolis of the state capital.

While also speaking, the team leader of the Ministerial Task Force to Kano, Dr Nasiru Sani Gwarzo, disclosed that Kano is on the trajectory of progress in its fight against the pandemic.

He however called on the state government to push further the people of Kano further to comply with the use to face masks and maintain social distancing, stressing that people were still congregating in some parts of the state.
