Coalition Demands Immediate Sack, Prosecution Of NNPC GMD, Kyar

A coalition of about 570 groups, including Lawyer Reform Group and other various civil society, ethnic nationalities leaders and socio-justice and human rights groups at a press conference in Lagos has demanded the immediate sack and prosecution of the Group Managing Director, GMD, if the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL, Mele Kyari from office.

Addressing journalists at the press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, the leader of the coalition, Aare Oladotun Hassan, said that their demand for Kyari’s sack and prosecution is a follow up to their demand for the probe of Kyari’s activities and actions as the Chief Executive Officer of the NNPCL at a press conference held in Abuja on Monday 25th September, 2023.

The coalition said that after Kyari’s sack, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration must carry out a forensic audit investigation into his activities while in office.

The coalition said that Kyari must be investigated and prosecuted by the joint operations of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, the Economic and Financial Crime’s Commission, EFCC, the Department of State Services, DSS and the National Security Adviser, NSA, and later at a court of competent jurisdiction.

The coalition said, “It is very sad that Mele Kyari deceived the entire nation made up of over 200 million peopel and misguided, misled us to lose over N10 trillion, sunk into the turn around maintenance of refineries without any meaningful achievement.

“A repeat of Mele Kyari’s chameleonic deceits is in the offing, capable of wrecking the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and push it into abyss of history, if not urgently checked

“We rely on the statement credited to President Tinubu’s newly appointed Chairman, Tax Reform Committee, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, that the Federal Government has lost over N10 trillion to the refineries’ turnaround maintenance without any meaningful achievements under Mele Kyari, while he called for the privatization of our four refineries, if we must achieve growth, due to lack of succinct internal control measures to achieve optimal performance and positive end result.

“What a grave loss and disaster to Nigeria if Mele Kyari is not immediately shown the way out.

“We frowned at the reprisal media attacks launched by Kyari to raise army of disgruntled youth groups and self serving civil society groups to do hatchet political jobs by fraudulently endorsing his corruption spree under the guise of passing vote of confidence, what a retrogressive failure and abysmal shame.

“It is within our legal inherent rights to demand for accountability as citizens, while we are aware the bulk of the responsibility stops on President Tinubu’s table to make good of his promises of providing Renewed Hope.

“Secondly, according to global best practice, even in the United States of America, oil retailers companies such as A. A. Rano, MRS and co who are major oil marketers who are retailers are expected to get contract for maintenance and rehabilitation of pipelines other than just lifting petroleum products sales supply and marketing. But this is not so under Kyari’s maladministration.

“Hence precipitating our demands for further scrutiny and investigation of Mele Kyari’s led NNPCL abysmal symptoms called achievements and need to interrogate the contractors now, because of lack of transparency and due process in accordance with the procurement law, as no tender nor plan of action was made known to the public, everything about NNPCL is opaque and shrouded in secrecy of deceits.”

The coalition urge the Federal Government to quickly take a bold step to stop this fraudulent multi-billion dollar pipeline maintenance, rehabilitation and transfer of crude oil and refined petroleum products supply with surveillance of protection of these upland crude oil and refined petroleum products delivery pipeline contract immediately.

“A cursory look at the fuel subsidy saga in Nigeria over the last few years under Kyari reveals a can of worms, a messy episodes, a stinking story of half truths, outright lies, unpardonable deceit, brazen theft, hyper economic sabotage, wicked corruption, mindless stealing, unpatroitism and a near irredeemable negative taint to our international image that has almost brought Nigeria to a pariah status in the comity of nations.

“There is no gainsaying that the fuel subsidy regime was a big scam and monumental fraud, which made Nigeria to subsidize a heartless corruption that was bleeding her to death by a heartless criminality and bazaar of eight years.

“In the light of the forgoing, Mr. President, we, the Coalition for Mele Kyari Must Go, Yoruba Council Worldwide, Lawyers for Reform Group, the Oil Producing Host Communities,
Niger Delta Anti-Corruption and Accountability Network, together with the Defenders of the Niger Delta, Human Rights Lawyers Association, Nigerian Youths Coalition, Arewa Youth Leaders Forum and a host of Nigeria youth transparency groups have viewed with keen interest, the humongous corruption in the fuel subsidy regime under Mele Kyari and and have decided to report his ugly activities to President Tinubu for immediate action as his continuous stay in office will further jeopardise your 8 – Point Renewed Hope Agenda.”
