Nigerian football legend, Segun Odegbami, aka ‘Mathematical Odegbami,’ legal luminary, Wole Olanipekun, SAN, renown banker, and former Chief Executives Officer, CEO, of First Bank Nigeria Plc, Olabisi Onasanya and leading publisher and chairman, Trust News, Mallam Kabiru Yusuf will be bestowed with the honoris causa, (honourary doctoral degrees) of the prestigious Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, at its 7th convocation ceremony, which kicks off from February 6, 2023.

Chairman of the Ceremonial Committee of the upwardly mobile ivory tower, Prof. Tajudeen Bolanle Opoola, made this known in a statement made available to the university media team on Wednesday.

The 7th convocation ceremony will also feature other important events, including: a convocation play to be presented by the institution’s Department of Theatre and Media Arts, currently under the headship of Associate Professor Lilian E. Bakare, which promises to be thrilling, instructive and refreshing; induction of engineering students at the Ikole Campus; 8th lnuagural lecture, to be delivered by Prof. A. Akeem Ajiboye; world press briefing by the Vice Chancellor, VC, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina; presentation of the VC’s merit awards to deserving staff members as well as commissioning of infrastructural projects to mark the two year eventful and highly rewarding tenure of the incumbent VC, Prof. Fasina, among others.

Expressing his excitement about the development, Mr. Odegbami said, “Gooď news from a citadel of learning. Even in an atmosphere of ominous dark, grey clouds, some sunlight shines through…completely out of the blue, I received a call from an emissary, followed by an official letter from the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, giving me the good news of the desire of the university to confer on me an Honorary Doctorate degree in Human Kinetics at the university’s 7th convocation ceremony coming up in February.

“I was going to keep it to myself, but wiser counsel by a few friends that I shared it with prevailed. So, here I am, using this small medium to publicly acknowledge this offer.

“I humbly urge all those that read this to join me in expressing very sincere gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, the Governing Council, the Senate, staff and students of the university for finding me deserving of such an exalted honour.

“This is fuel to my spirit and my being. I shall continue to make my humble contributions to the fields of sports, society and humanity.”

The Chief Host, Prof. Fasina, said in his release, “On behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, staff and students of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, I have the pleasure to invite you to the 7th xonvocation xeremonies of the university scheduled to hold between Monday, 6th February and 12th February, 2023.

“The convocation ceremonies are for the investiture of the university Chancellor, awards of postgraduate and graduate degrees, conferment of honorary doctoral degrees, as well as special meritorious service awards to some distinguished personalities in Nigeria.”

According to the release, detail events of the convocation include: VC’s Press Conferece, Monday, 6th February, 2023, 10 am at the Council Chamber; opening of free health care services within Oye community by the VC, 10am and commissioning of projects in Oye campus, Oloye’s Palace, 12noon on Tuesday, 7th February, 2023.

On Wednesday, 8th February, opening of free health care services in Ikole community by the VC, 10am; induction of engineering students into the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, at the Faculty of Engineering, Ikole, 12 noon; and commissioning of projects at Ikole campus and Institute of Part Time Studies, Ikole/Ire Elekole’s Palace, 2pm; Thursday, 9th February, 2023, Convocation Lecture at the Science Lecture Theatre, 10am; Juma’at service at the university mosque and command performance by the Theatre and Media Arts students at the
Theatre Arts Studio complex, 2pm; and Vice-Chancellor’s Merit Award to professionals and deserving staff members.

The climax of the activities is the convocation, the investiture of the Chancellor, award of degrees, university Founders Day’s speech at the Theatre Arts Studio complex, 10am.

And on Sunday, 12th February, 2023 at 10am, a Thanksgiving Service will hold at university’s Chapel of Transformation.

In a related development, two children of the Publisher of CompassNG, Kayode and Tofunmi Omojolomoloju, are among the graduating students of FUOYE, from the departments of Mass Communication and Theatre Arts and Biochemistry respectively.
