As the crisis bedeviling the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over the removal of the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayo, lingers on, five governors elected on the platform of the PDP, and some aggrieved party leaders are currently having a strategic meeting in Lagos.

The concerned governors, who are now referred to as the G-5 Governors, are the governors of Rivers, Oyo, Abia, Enugu and Benue states, Nyesome Wike, S’eyi Makinde, Ikpeazu, Ifebayo Ugwuanyi and Sam Ortom, respectively. Other in the parley are former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, South, and former military governor of old Ondo State, Chief Olabode George, former governors of Ekiti, Ondo and Cross River states, Ayo Fayose, Olusegun Mimiko and Donald Duke, respectively.

Others are: former Attorney-General of the federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Bello Adoke, Deputy National Chairman, South of the PDP, Taofeek Arapaja, Senators Nasir Suleiman, Nnenna Ukeje, Sandy Onor, MAO Ohuanbuwa and Chief Dan Orbih.

The meeting may not be unconnected with the agitation for the removal of the PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

A source, privy to the meeting, however, said the meeting would avail Wike and his allies the opportunity to review recent developments in the party before taking the next step.

Governor Wike and his allies are currently having a closed door meeting and are expected to brief the press later.

Recall that the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Rivers State Governor Wike, have been at daggers drawn over removal of Ayu and the need for the South to produce the party’s National Chairman.
