The Oyo State government has revealed its plans to embark on the upgrade of community roads in a bid to make rural roads motorable.

This was contained in a statement by the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Matters, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, on Saturday, and made available to newsmen, when the commissioner went on an inspection exercise in some communities.

Onveying government’s commitment and readiness to upgrade community roads, Hon. Olayiwola also addressed grey areas that could hamper project execution and solicited residents’ support.

He said that the present administration, under the Abel leadership of Engr Seyi Makinde, will continue to give priority to the welfare of residents, especially at the grassroots level, through the provision of basic and infrastructural amenities.

He said, “We have a number of roads across the state that are being undertaken by the local government, and this is just one of the roads, and we are here to inspect the road.

“The road is a linkage between two villages, Iresaadu and Ileoodu, a neighbouring village. With the bridge in place, the sky is the starting point, and I can assure you that, before one year time, you will see houses springing up.

Olayiwola averred that “the road is a benefit to people in the area. It would be accessible for the road users, easy passage, and sense of belonging for the two villages around, and they will know that we have a government in place.”

Some of the roads inspected by the honourable commissioner include the onekilomtre road linking Iresaadu village to Ileoodu village in Surulere Local Government; and Kosobo Road in Oyo East Local Government Area of the state.

A resident of Kosobo community, Mr. Biodun Ahmed, appreciated the state governor Engr. Makinde for having the Kosobo community in mind.

He said, “Before the road construction, the erosion was disturbing us and a lot of people have left their houses and relocated elsewhere and now, they are back to their place of shelter.”

Dignitaries at the inspection tour include: the Chairman, Surulere Local Government Area, Hon. Isaiah Alaba; the Permanent Secretary in the ministry and Directors.
