The leadership of the Ogun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, has said that preparations are in top gear to host the second edition of the Ogun SWAN Media Cup.
A statement by the Secretary of Ogun State chapter of SWAN, Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, stated that towards this end, the association said it has secured a sponsorship deal with a sports enthusiast, a public affairs analyst, and a gubernatorial aspirant on tbe platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State, Chief Segun Showunmi.
Showunmi expressed his readiness to sponsor the second edition of the media cup when the SWAN executives, led by Hakeem Akintunde, paid him a courtesy visit at his Ibara GRA residence.
Chief Showunmi averred that sports remain a unifying factor, and as such should be treated as atop-tier sector.
He expressed his readiness to be part of the highly anticipated media event, while urging SWAN to organize a memorable competition.
The football fiesta is specially designed for journalists across the Gateway State to sweat it out on the field of play.
The first edition featured 16 media organizations, with the Broadcast Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, conquering others in the media football battle.
The date of draws and guidelines will be communicated to the public in no distant time, while the tournament is expected to take place between June 1st and 8th, 2023.
The SWAN Media Cup is a 5-Aside football competition to foster unity and strengthen relationships among journalists in Ogun state.
