…PDP postpones Primary Election
The Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, has reportedly finally joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the September 2020 Edo gubernatorial poll.
This is just as the PDP has also postponed its primary election to pick its gubernatorial candidate till Tuesday, June 23, ostensibly to accommodate Obaseki in the scheme of things.
The postponement was announced by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, via his Twitter handle, where he simply tweeted, “@OfficialPDPNig has postponed its primary election in Edo State to Tuesday, June 23rd 2020.”
The governor had on Monday announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress, APC, three days after the party’s screening committee disqualified him from partaking in its primaries over issues bordering on academic qualification.
Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the PDP, Mr. Tony Azegbemi, revealed that Obaseki has registered with the party, adding, “We are ready to welcome Governor Obaseki and we are excited he is joining our party,” adding that the governor’s membership card of the governor is ready.
He said, “At the moment, Obaseki is in Abuja, but his card is ready and he has already registered with our party in his ward. I just finished a State Working Committee, SWC, meeting now, where we affirmed that we are welcoming him with open arms to our party.”
Azegbemi disclosed that Obaseki would go through the party’s constitutional processes to be able to contest for the party’s governorship ticket.
Media aide to the governor, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, could not be reached for comment.
