…Activities Begin Monday, October 21

The Federal University Lokoja, FUL, is set to commence activities for its 8th convocation ceremony on Monday, 21st of October, 2024, with a press conference by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, at the University Council Chamber, Felele at 10:00 am.

A statement released by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Dr. Rebecca Aimiohu Okojie, states that the press conference is to be followed later on the same day at the Multipurpose Hall, Felele by the 2nd Annual Colloquium in honour of Professor Olu Obafemi, a distinguished Professor of Literary Art and Winner of 2018 Nigerian National Order of Merit Award, themed ‘Olu Obafemi’s Post-Feminist Vision: Drama Materialist Aesthetics, and the Nigerian Woman.’

Activities lined up to commemorate the eighth convocation ceremony of the 13-year-old institution, is scheduled to take place between Monday, October 21 and Sunday, October 27, 2024.

The statement indicated that “the second day, Tuesday 22nd October, will witness the celebration of the FUL Founder’s Day at the University’s College of Health Sciences (formerly Adankolo Campus). On Wednesday, 23rd October, there will be a Research Fair/Exhibition at the same venue in the morning. Other activities also outlined for the third day include Procession Rehearsal in the afternoon at the Mini Stadium, Felele Campus, for management, Provost, Deans and Directors, Deputy Registrar (Senate Affairs), Deputy Registrar (Exams and Records), Deputy Registrar (Student Affairs), Deputy Registrar & Secretary, College of Postgraduate Studies, Faculty Officers, and all graduands.”

It further stated that a Convocation Lecture on the topic ‘Nigerian Educational Sector: Issues and Challenges,’ would be delivered by Nahzeem Olufemi Mimiko, former Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University on Thursday 24th October, at the Multipurpose Hall, Felele, in the afternoon, while the Convocation Play will take place in the evening at the College of Health Sciences, Adankolo.

The Registrar added that there would be Juma’at Prayer between 1.30 and 2.00 pm at the University Mosque, Felele, and the Chancellor’s Night at 5.00 pm on Day Five, Friday, 25th October.

Dr. Okojie disclosed that the main convocation ceremony would take place on Saturday, 26th October at the Convocation Arena, Permanent Site, Felele, where graduands of the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 Four-Year Programme in the Faculties of Arts, Education, Management Sciences, Sciences, and Social Sciences would be awarded first degrees.

She further noted that there would be an Endowment, Award of Honorary Doctorate and Higher Degrees as well as presentation of Prizes on the same (sixth) day.

According to her, the 8th convocation activities would be brought to a close on Sunday, 27th October with an inter-denominational Thanksgiving Service at the College of Health Sciences’ Auditorium, Adankolo.
