In an effort to spur non-academic staff of the University of Calabar, to increase their level of productivity for the good of the institution, Cross River State Education Commissioner, Senator Dr Stephen Adi Odey, has urged the non-academic staff to put in their very best for development and growth of the school.

He urged the instruction’s non-academic staff to redouble their effort in the discharge of their duties, given the fact that they were the nucleus of the institution, whose action or inaction could mar or bring development to the institution.

The commissioner made the call in a lecture he delivered during the second Registry Day of the university, held at the Unical International Centre yesterday.

The commissioner further urged the non-academic staff to see themselves as the nucleus of the institution stressing that they were an integral part of the institution, with responsibility to contribute their quita towards the development and growth of the institution.

The former National Assembly member calls for all hands to be on deck, emphasizing that no university can adequately function without the services of non-academic staff.

Stressing that as non-academic staff, all they need to do is to play a complimentary role for the advancement of the institution, Odey said, “The university is the centre of excellence, the academic and non-academic staff play complimentary roles to each other.

“The university cannot function without the non-academic staff, for the non-academic staff are the lifewire of any university in the world.”

Lauding management of the institution, superintended over by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, Odey said, “There’s so much expectation from all of you in the registry department of the university.

“I encourage you to spend quality time to listen to well-seasoned administrators and resource persons, at the end of the program be assured, you will never remain the same.”

He eulogized the VC for approving the Registry Day, which is used to share knowledge.
