The member representing Ikom II state constituency, in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, has emerged the Speaker of the Assembly.

Ayambem, a second term lawmaker emerged Speaker after he and other principal officers if the Assembly were unanimously affirmed by members of the Assembly.

Ayambem, a public administration graduate, found favour with 24 other members of the House of Assembly, who affirmed him as House Speaker against another top ranking law maker representing Boki II state constituency, Rt. Honoruable Hillary Bissong.

In a brief chat on WhatsApp with our correspondent, shortly after he was decorated as Speaker of 10th Assembly, Ayambem promised to carry every member along, stressing that he would run an open policy ,where members would be consulted before decisions affecting the members are taken by the House leadership.

He said, “Members welfare and legislations that would positively impact on the lives of the people of the state would be top priority of the House leadership under my watch.

“Everyone is important, due consultation would be made before decisions are taken. I am aware of the fact that success can only be achieved when members inputs are made.

“I just thank God for this; if not for God who used critical stakeholders to make me a Speaker, I would not had sat on that chair today. God used critical stakeholders and House members to make me Speaker. It couldn’t have been by my power.”

The House also elected other principal officers, who include: the member representing Obudu state constituency, Hon. Sylvester Agabi, emerged Deputy Speaker.

Ayambem pledged to work hard towards the legislation of laws that would turned around the fortunes of the state, soliciting for support from all members to take the state to height heights.
