…Restates Future Expectations
A gubernatorial aspirant of Ijumu extraction, Hon Dayo Akomode has expressed heartfelt appreciation to the President of Ijumu Development Union, IDU, Kayode Olorunmaye, for the success of the annual general meeting, AGM, of the IDU, the umbrella body for all sons and daughters of Ijumu kingdom, home and in the diaspora.
The AGM, which held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, also featured a mini-fund-raising event towards the completion of the Ijumu Unity House.
In a statement, Hon Akomode, while thanking every son and daughter of Ijumu, said, “I want to appreciate the President of IDU for the success of the yearly IDU conference which took place at Iyara on December 28, 2021.”
Challenging the political class for future participation in the AGM, he added, “I expected a better representation from the political class and opinion leaders in Ijumu kingdom. This is the only credible, mainstream organization that can speak on our behalf and which we can lay claim to.
“I expect that we should all respect this body and make it responsive to our needs. Charity begins at home. I expect those who couldn’t make it to have sent representation from among their numerous aides.”
He further expressed kudos to the executive chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Hon (Dr) Taofik lsa, for not only attending the AGM, but attending with a large entourage, adding, “This gave him the opportunity to brief the audience. We must make deliberate efforts to promote this cord that bind us together, as it is done in other places; either at the IDU conference or Ijumu Day.”
Further eulogising the IDU President in the statement, Hon Akomode described him as a “man of track records, who needs the encouragement and support” of all to take the union to the next level.
Hon Akomode continued, “I have known him right from his days in Kwara State as the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, PPRO.”
Akomode while commending Ijumu sons and daughters for their role in the success of the event, however challenged them to perform better in future engagements, insisting that there is the “need to put our heads together on how these important events can be used as symbols of unity.”
He added, “There can not be a better time than now to come together to strategize against banditry and terrorism that is assuming a frightening dimension in our land.
“I have the conviction that more people will contribute their ideas on how to move forward on these issues,” even as he expressed disappointment at the laickadasical attitudes of some members; even as he challenged the political leaders of Ijumu to up their game and become more involved.
While wishing all sons and daughters of Ijumu kingdom a prosperous New Year, Akomode said, “My sincere hope is that there will be a rethink on the part of those of us concerned. Kudos to those who contributed to the completion of Ijumu Unity Hall.”
