No fewer than 21 primary schools in Calabar metropolis have benefited from Olumba Obu’s post COVID-19 palliatives, which is meant to cushion effect of coronavirus pandemic which inflicted economic hardship on residents of the state.
The Brotherhood of the Cross and Star deputy spokesperson, Ogar Osim, while addressing the primary schools’ head teachers, shortly before the commencement of the distribution of the post COVID-19 palliatives, which include bags of rice, hand sanitizer, face masks, exercise and text books, cartons of hand washing liquid soap, infra-red thermometer, and several learning and teaching materials worth millions of naira, said that they were Olumba’s way of cushioning the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Addressing head teachers at Iron Bar Memorial Primary School, Atu street, Calabar, venue of the distribution, yesterday, Leader Olumba Obu stated that the initiative is to assist some schools in the area which may have passed through economic hardship as a result of outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic which has taken many lives since it broke out.
Also speaking at the event, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Betta Edu, called for strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols so that the spread of the pandemic can be put on check.
She said, “Don’t take anything for granted, COVID-19 is still around, always wash your hands and adhere to the NCDC guidelines if you want to remain safe.”
Edu lauded leader Olumba Obu for his kind gesture and called on other public-spirited individuals to emulate the virtues of Leader Olumba Obu for the betterment of the society.
