The governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, at the week end directed the remodeling of the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri, with new structures to be built.

Zulum also ordered the rehabilitation of ‘Buba Marwa House,’ which serves as an accommodation for medical doctors working with Specialist Hospital.

The governor gave both directives during an assessment visit to the hospital.

He said, “We have examined the capacity of the hospital, and we will soon embark on erecting more structures and make certain adjustments in such a way that doctors and other health allied staff will have offices in the premises.”

The governor also announced that medical equipment will be procured and more medical staff, including doctors and nurses, will be recruited.

Governor Zulum enthused, “Borno State government will procure medical equipments that are currently not available at the hospital. We will recruit more doctors and nurses and ensure wash facilities are provided.”

He noted that “all these efforts are geared towards re-positioning the health care system in Borno State.”

Governor Zulum was accompanied on the assessment visit by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Bukar Tijjani, the Permanent Secretary, Government House, Barrister Mustapha Busuguma and some top government officials.
