A twenty-seven-year-old University of Calabar, Unical, student, Mr. Daniel Ehis Aiguokhian, has broken the jinx after setting a new writing record of 188 hours.
The Edo State-born Philosophy student spent about a week writing in his bid to set the record.
He wrote a total of 19 books with a minimum of 30 pages each, comprising eight fiction and 11 non-fiction books.
Ehis spent about one week writing. He began the writing on Sunday October 1, and completed writing 19 books – eight fictions and 11 non-fiction – works for eight days, spending about 188 hours, non-stop to break the the writing record.
At the SUG Hall, University of Calabar, after setting the new record, the author expressed happiness and thanked God for giving him the strength and wisdom to achieve the feat.
Answering questions on his source of motivation, the author stated that his source of motivation to engage in creative writing, came from the fact that he had always wanted to become an author and to make it possible for authors of Nigeria and African origin to be celebrated.
He said, “The major thing is not to set the record itself, but to use that thing you want to do to impact lives.
“For me, the word for young people out there is to have a bigger picture of the thing they are doing and work hard towards achieving it.”
The Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State indigene stressed that he had the dream of becoming a record breaker since 2007.
In her earlier remarks, the Vice Chancellor, VC, of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, lauded the undergraduate literary artist for making the institution proud, adding, “This is a very big phenomenal feat and we are proud of him.
“Each minute we were praying for him and at some point we thought he will fail us but he made it, other youths should emulate Ehis, because there is so much that they can do.”
