…Debunks Narratives Of Ritualism, Cultism On Social Media

The management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has reacted to a viral video purporting some students of the institution engaging in ritual practice, and or cult activities on campus, debunking the narrative attached to the video.

In a statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Modupe Theresa Fawale, FNIM, and made available to newsmen, the institution’s management explained that “the short video that has gone viral was the performance of students from Art and Design Department during the 2023 Departmental Week, and not that of ritualists and cultists, as purported by narratives attached to the video.”

Fawale added, “The scene on the video is to educate, orientate and discourage the minds of the youths, especially students, from engaging in money ritual, cultism and other social vices. Not that the act was real within the campus, as it was been rumoured and made to look.”

The management, however, called the attention of all students’ associations in The Polytechnic, Ibadan, to the need to register and ensure that their activities are approved by the institution’s Students Affairs Directorate, which has the mandate to monitor the kind of programmes to be embarked on.

It added, “The Students’ Union should also through their platforms sensitize students’ associations/clubs to project the good image of the institution at all times.”

The statement added that the management of the institution is alive to it’s responsibility and would not allowed such blatant disregard for laws and regulations guiding students’ behaviour and operations within the campus; and therefore urged the general public to disregard the narratives trending on the social media about the viral video that ritualists and cultists are on the prowl in the campus of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, insisting that such narratives are far from the truth, but the figment of the imaginations of the narrators.
