The Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Associate Professor Stephen Odey, yesterday canvassed for sustainability of peace and unity of the Yache nation, describing peace as the foundation for development of the Yache nation.
Odey made the remarks during a peace meeting held at his Okuku country home, in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, when some delegations from the Maa and Wonye clans gathered to iron out certain community issues yesterday.
The former member of the National Assembly, who doubles as Oyorgu One of the Yache nation, called for peaceful co-existence among residents of the Yache nation, stressing that it is only when there is peaceful co-existence that the people stand the chance of achieving what they desire.
The former law maker charged the youths and traditional rulers to shun inter tribal war, as communal war hinders progress and development.
Odey said, “Peace and unity are the bedrock of any meaningful development. It is imperative that we put an end to all forms of discord and work together for the good of our people.”
In a firm warning against any acts of violence or disruptions, Senator Odey declared that anyone found instigating or perpetuating trouble in the community would be apprehended and held accountable under the law.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining order and ensuring that peace prevails in Yache nation.
