The senatorial candidate of the Labour Party, LP, for Anambra Central senatorial candidat, distinguished Senator Victor Umeh, has joined other prominent Nigerians to express sadness over the demise of elder statesman and President-General of Igbo apex soxio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor.

Obiozor, a renowned diplomat and foremost academic in the area of international relations, was reported to have died after a brief illness at his residence in Imo State at the age of 80.

Umeh, the Ohamadike Ndigbo, noted that the late professor served the country meritoriously, and described his death as a great loss to the Igbo race in particular and Nigeria in general.

He averred that Obiozor lived a distinguished life of service to the country and Ndigbo.

The LP senatorial flag bearer for Anambra Central senatorial district said, “We have lost a great man and an icon. He served Nigeria and now died while in the service of his people!”

The late Obiozor, a one-time Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, NIIA, who was elected as the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on January 9, 2021, was once Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Cyprus, and at different times the Nigerian ambassador to Israel and the United States.
