The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC Support Groups in Cross River State have led its members to the streets of Calabar to protest against the nomination of a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr.Asu Okang, as the representative of the state on the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC Board.

The spokesperson to President Bola Ahmed Bola Tinubu, Ajuri Ngelale, had two days ago, in a statement, announced that President Tinubu has approved the appointment of a new board and management team for the NDDC.

Angered with that development, the aggrieved APC supporters gathered at the state secretariat of the party with placards bearing different inscriptions to express their disappointment

Recall that Mr. Okang, a former Commissioner for Youths and Sports as well as Information in the state dumped his former boss, former Governor Ben Ayade, probably because Ayade defected to the APC.

Okang is said to be an ardent supporter of the G5 Group within the PDP, which stood for power shift to the South during the last presidential election.

Spokesperson for the protesters, Dr. Edem Ebong, said that it was wrong for President Tinubu to nominate someone who had worked against his emergence as President, likening it to somebody working in Fidelity Bank and collecting salary at MTN.

The group called for the reversal of the appointment, as it had sparked up anger in the state.
