One of the 2,196 graduands at the eighth convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Lokoja, FUL, held recently, Miss Beauty Ene-Ojo, has expressed great joy over her emergence as the overall best graduating student of the school in 2024.
Beauty, the former interim president of the student union government of FUL, who was of the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Social Sciences, triumphantly emerged as the overall best graduating student for 2024 with a Cumulative Grade Point Average, CGPA, of 4.92.
Speaking in an interview, Beauty, 20-year-old First-Class graduate from Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, said she was happy and grateful to God for making it possible for her to realise her dream of becoming the best graduating student in the whole of FUL’s 2024 set.
She said, “It’s a dream come true. I feel so happy because God has turned my dream into reality. Right from when I was in secondary school, I had actually set my goal because I wanted to be the best graduating student in the university. I made that decision from the day my dad told me about a female that was the overall best graduating student in her set in a particular university. I can’t remember the name.
“That story of a female first-class graduate who led her set as narrated by my dad greatly inspired me. So, when I got to the university (FUL) I came in with that goal. I was desirous of becoming the best graduating student and I worked towards it. I desired it, I prayed for it and worked diligently towards achieving it. Today, I feel very joyous to see that it has become a reality. And I thank the Almighty God for making it happen. God really helped me to achieve this feat despite the challenges I faced throughout my university days.”
The former student union leader commended FUL’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, for his remarkable efforts at transforming the 13-year-old university, saying, “The VC is a great leader. He is very focussed and passion-driven. Significant progress has been made since he took charge of the affairs of Federal University Lokoja. Many of the good things you see in the school today happened during his time. He has really achieved a lot for the school.
“Also, my lecturers are good and nice. They are such a wonderful set of people, who gave us all the encouragement we needed to excel in our studies.”
Advising the students she left behind at FUL, Beauty added, “What I have to tell them is that they should always aim for the best. Always pray, work towards it and then be diligent. Whatever they dream will come into reality by the help of God.”
Besides her interim headship of the student union for a period of four months (from May 2024), Beauty was also the Vice President of her departmental fellowship, a position she held from her 200 level.
Currently in the final stage (professional level) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, program, the first-class graduate of Economics is on the verge of becoming a chartered accountant. She commenced the ICAN program when she was in 200 level.
