Borno State deputy governor, Hon. Umar Kadafur, on Wednesday inspected schools, houses and other infrastructures in Government Girls College and Central Primary School, Biu, that were destroyed following a heavy windstorm which occured last week.

The windstorm also wrecked havoc on many residential houses, electricity transmission poles and GSM facilities.

Kadafur and his entourage have also gone round many wards within Biu Local Government Area, where he sympathized with victims, and pledged government’s support.

The deputy governor was informed by the council caretaker chairman, Alhaji Sule Ali Yimi, that over 200 houses were affected by the windstorm and appealed to the government to come to the aide of the victims.

Dr. Kadafur directed the chairman to compile a comprehensive list of all the victims, which would be forwarded to government for consideration and assistance.

While at the Government Girls Secondary School, GGSS, Biu, the principal of the school, Hajiya Falmata Maina, said that the roofs of about three block of hostel were blown, of thereby creating accommodation shortages to the total number of 2,073 students in the school.

The principal also said that although, no life was lost during the unfortunate incident, some people sustained various degrees of injuries while running to escape for their dear lives.

Yimi told Kadafur, “Immediately the incident occurred, we went round the town and assess the extent of damage in which, over 200 houses includung schools, electrical and GSM facilities were destroyed.

“We are appealing to the government and well-to-do individuals to come to the aide of the victims.”
