…Condoles Family Of Slain Rivers Police Officer
The Police Service Commission, PSC, has been advised to, as a matter of urgency, post Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, to their localities as part of community policing initiative in order to avert the ugly situation that happened at the weekend in Rivers State, where a police DPO was beheaded.
The counsel was given by the Olowu of Kuta, His Royal Majesty, Oba Hameed Adekunle Makama, Oyelude Tegbosun III, CON.
Commiserating with the Nigeria Police Force and the family of the slain police officer, the Olowu said that the perpetrators of the dastardly act should be apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law to serve as deterrent other criminal minded individuals.
The royal father stated this in a statement released by his media office, in Kuta on Sunday, condemning such a heinous crime where a police officer was beheaded.
Emphasizing on the need for the PSC and the Inspector General of Police, IGP, to ensure that as part of community policing initiative, all DPOs are from the same locality they are posted to.
The Olowu said that this strategy will not only help such police officer to do his work diligently, but it will also afford him the opportunity to be familiar with the people and the terrain.
Oba Makama said, “The way the senior officer was beheaded has brought to fore again the need to always ensure that DPOs are posted to operate in their locality of origin. I will advise the Police Service Commission and the Inspector General of Police to ensure that all DPOs are posted to their locality as part of community policing. This will also help in intelligence gathering.”
The reverred monarch explained that the Area Commanders can come from any part of the country.
Recall that the DPO of Ahoada Divisional Police Station, SP Bako Angbashim, was beheaded on Friday by cultists.
Enraged by the dastardly act, the governor of Rivers State, Similaye Fubara, has suspended the traditional ruler of Ahoada and placed an N100 million bounty on suspect’s head.
