No fewer than 60 youths of Akpap Okoyong community, in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State benefited from the empowerment initiative of the Special Advisers to Governor Bassey Edet Otu on General Duties, Mr. Ekpeyong Akiba Esq.

The empowerment programme which was initiated by Akiba to reach out to his community youths was to mark his birthday.

The initiative attracted men and women of honour to the community during the weekend.

Akiba stated that the beneficiaries had been long-standing friends and stauch supporters Governor Otu, stressing that the financial assistance rendered to the beneficiaries is a way to support the young people to kick-start a petty trade to support themselves.”

A breakdown of the beneficiaries showed that 30 persons received cash grant of N100,000 each while the remaining 30 got N50,000 each to support their small and medium enterprises, rather than roam the streets doing nothing.

Speaking shortly after reaching out to the beneficiaries, Akiba expressed joy over the encomium showered on him for kind support, stressing that the ceremony isn’t just just a tea party for celebration of his birthday, but a day to reach out to those who stood firm for him and his principal during their time of trial.

He enthused, “Seeing them gathered, sharing in the joy, and receiving my modest tokens of appreciation reminds me of the power of loyalty, community, and shared purpose.

“True fulfillment comes from giving, serving, and standing together for a greater cause. I will continue to uphold the values of compassion, gratitude, and impactful leadership as a true disciple of the Sweet Prince.”

Notable political figures and crème-la-creme of Cross River State graced the ceremony, which held at Akpap Okoyong, Akiba ‘s home town.

In his remarks the chairman of Odukpani Local Government Area, Etim Asido, lauded the governor’s aide for the kind gesture, stressing that the gesture aligns with Governor Otti’s slogan governor, ‘Season of Sweetness.’

He said that Akiba is one young man whose heart can be described as “heart of gold,” stressing that Akiba’s empowerment is like the revival of vibrancy and solidarity in local communities which is a reflection of the governor’s leadership style.

Also speaking the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nsa Gill, described Akiba as “a unique and dedicated individual who embodies the government’s ‘People First’ mantra.

He noted that the large turnout at the event reflected Akiba’s strong support within the community and his commitment to assisting the less privileged.

Deputy Press Secretary to the governor, Edem Darlington, highlighted that Akiba’s decision to prioritize community support over personal celebration demonstrates his deep values and commitment to his constituents.

He stressed that “leadership should be about giving back and recognizing those who have contributed to progress.”
