The House of Representatives has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s resolve to ensure regular electricity supply in the country, calling on Nigerians to support her power reforms in order to succeed.

The call was made by the Chairman, House Committee on Power, Hon. Victor Nwokolo, during an oversight function at the Calabar Generation Company Limited, a subsidiary of Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHCL), yesterday in Odukpani, Cross River state.

According to Nwokolo, the recent visit of the Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu as well as members of the parliament, respectively, was an indication of the high premium the current administration places on power supply in Nigeria.

National Compass reports that the Honorable Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, and some members of his management team were  at the power plant the previous today on a working visit to appraise its performances.

Nwokolo, therefore, charged Nigerians to support the Tinubu’s led administration in its quest to reform the power sector, assuring that the legislature will not rest on its oars to ensure through her oversight functions that Nigerians derive maximum benefits from every initiative that tends to boost power supply.

While noting the multiplier effects of regular electricity supply on other segments of the society, Nwokolo said: “We are here in response to the yearnings of Nigerians.

“Don’t forget that yesterday the Minister of Power was here also. It shows you the premium the government of the day places on making power to be available at all times.

“The issue of power is very important because of its multiplier effects. Power will help to address the challenges we have in security system, to check the unemployment issue; even when there is employment, the issue of underemployment. And, by the time we are done, Nigerians would be the better for it.

The chairman reiterated the legislatures’ commitment towards ensuring stable power supply in Nigeria, with the required legislations.

Also speaking, the Managing Director, Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, Chiedu Ugbo, thanked the lawmakers for finding time to embark on the tour.

Ugbo, who was visibly elated over the visit, promised that his team would strive to maintain international best practices in running the plant.

He expressed optimism that with the usual dedication to duty, management of the plant will work round the clock to surpass whatever achievements she might have recorded in the recent past.

The MD said his team will consolidate on existing relationship with her supplier in order to surmount possible challenges, especially on the consistent supply of gas to power the plant.

“We know that someday, somebody will come and ask us questions on what we are doing here; that is why we are ever ready.

“These plants are fantastically engineered. So, we would make sure that we meet international best practices. You must have heard from the Minister of Power yesterday, that this is one of the most well run plant, and now you have heard from the National Assembly members; Independently too, that this is a well-run plant”, Ugbo stated in part.
