Shortly after declaring his bid for the Presidency ahead of the 2023 general election, former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, has been charged with alleged fraud of N2.9 billion by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
In a 17-count charge filed on Monday, at a Federal High Court, Abuja, the EFCC alleged that Okorocha, alongside Anyim Nyerere Chinenye, Naphtali International Ltd, Perfect Finish Multi Projects Limited, Consolidated Projects Consulting Limited, Pramif International Limited and Legend World Concepts Limited, conspired to steal N2.9 billion public funds, without regards to the Economic and Financial Crimes Act provisions that prohibit such.
Reca that this is not the first time the EFCC is messing up the former governor for financial fraud.
In April 2019, he was made to dance a similar rhythm, but this time around, the anti-graft commission tried to put it to him that he is not qualified a bit to stand for election into the nation’s highest office…on account of his alleged lighty fingers.
Again, in August 2019, the EFCCC grilled the senator after tracing some properties to him, including residential estates, schools, and shopping malls.
The property and investments traced to Okorocha in July 2019 include: Rochas Foundation College, Owerri; East High Primary and Secondary School, Owerri, which belonged to Okorocha’s first daughter, Uloma Nwosu; and All-in-One Supermarket, Owerri, Imo State.
Again, few days to the last general elections, the EFCC investigated Okorocha for allegedly withdrawing over N1 billion from the state government coffers to aid the campaign activities of his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, during the governorship polls in Imo State; and arrested the state Accountant-General, Uzoho Casmir, for allegedly assisting Okorocha to withdraw the funds.
