Candidate of the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Pius Ashakia has emerged winner in the re-run election for Obanlikwu state constituency in Cross River state.
Our correspondent reports that Ashakia scored 275 votes in the two polling units the court ordered a re-run exercise held on Saturday, thereby giving him an edge over other contestants having a total of 10,587 votes.
Ashakia was thereafter declared winner by INEC’s Returning Officer, Blessing Anyalebechi.
His closes rival in the exercise, Sunday Achunekang of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 243 votes.
Recall that the APC candidate had faulted the result of the earlier election conducted in 2023, shortly after Ashakia of the PDP was announced winner.
The seven (7) other candidates jointly secured a total of 64 votes, it was further gathered.
