A female traditional ruler and village head of Akai Efa community, Calabar Municipality Local Government Area of Cross River State, Her Royal Highness, Henrietta Efa Akpera, has decried the poor state of infrastructural facilities in the secondary school sited in the community.
The monarch disclosed this in Calabar at the weekend at the sidelines of the 3rd Foundation Day event of the Comrade Effanga Ita scholarship foundation.
Receiving an award of recognition from the foundation for her numerous contributions towards the development of education in the state, the monarch averred that for seven years now the school has been operating without a laboratory, convenience or flow of water.
The monarch said, “We have a lot of challenges in our school. Particularly, our secondary school, for over seven years, no tap or borehole is functional. The school has no laboratory, neither convenience nor water.”
Expressing excitement over the award of honour given to her by the foundation, the monarch stated that the award will spur her to do more for the community and the state.
In a keynote address, delivered at the event, the head of the foundation, Comrade Effanga, stressed that schools need to be safe for pupils and students to have a perfect learning environment.
Effanga stated that the foundation was doing everything humanly possible to ensure that they award scholarship to over 200 students with books to also be presented to 500 benefiaries in the local government area.
