The Cross River State Police Commissioner, CP, Augustine Grimah, on Thursday ordered the immediate arrest and investigation of a lady seen in a viral video flogging another young woman, identified as Queen, and who was being subjected to physical assault by the lady in the video.
Grimah gave the order in Calabar, while reacting to the trending video of the lady assaulting Miss Queen.
He stressed that the arrest will assist the police to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the disturbing incident and bring the perpetrators of the act to justice.
Represented by the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Irene Ugbo, Grimah stated, “The police commissioner wishes to address the recent viral video circulating on social media, which depicts a girl, identified as Miss Queen, being subjected to physical assault by a group of girls while in a hotel room.
A letter by the police command sighted by CompassNG, with Ref. No AZ:5250/CRS/PPRD/VOL.17/247 and dated August 22, 2024 reads, “The girl, visibly half-naked in the video, is being flogged for reasons that are currently under investigation so that perpetrator of this act can be brought to justice.”
The commissioner called for vigilance by players in the hospitality industry, urging them to take proactive measures in profiling and conducting background checks on guests who visit their facilities.
The letter added, “This step is crucial in preventing such disturbing incidents from occurring within their premises.”
In the meantime, the victim has been provided with necessary medical attention and is receiving medical attention in one of the hospitals in Calabar metropolis.
The commissioner promised to make the outcome of investigations into the incident known to members of the public.
He said, “We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and upholding justice in our society.”
