The Cross River State chapter of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has indicated interest to work with the PDP Governors’ Forum to strategize for the 2027 elections.

The party, which promised to rebuild and reposition ahead of 2027 sues for peace and unity of the party members if it is to win the elections.

The party’s State Executive Committee disassociates itself from and rejects outrightly any purported zonal congresses scheduled to be held in Calabar, Cross River State, stating that it will continue to be guided strictly by the “provisions of the Constitution of our great party, the PDP (as amended in 2017), and operational guidelines.”

Theese were decisions arrived at at a meeting held at the party secretariat in Calabar on Tuesday, and presided over by the acting state Chairman, Hon. Denis Nkiri, with 31 members of the SEC in attendance.

They further resolved to work for the peaceful resolution of any internal crisis amongst the party leaders.

The SEC implored all the leaders of the oarty, to be very sacrificial and accommodating of all shades of opinions, interests and aspirations in “our drive to elect credible officers to run the affairs of the party at all levels.”

A communiqué signed by members of the SEC, comprising the State Working Committee, SWC and local government chapter chairmen present reads in part, “That as stipulated by the Constitution of our great party as amended in 2017 (See Section 50, sub-section 2c, d and e), all zonal congresses should be conducted at the zonal headquarters and in this case, the South-South zonal headquarters is Port Harcourt and all prior zonal congresses had always been held in Port Harcourt.

“That the SEC dissociates itself from and rejects outrightly any purported zonal congresses scheduled to be held in Calabar, Cross River State.

“That the SEC reassures that it will continue to be guided strictly by the provisions of the Constitution of our great party, the PDP (as amended in 2017), Operational Guidelines, the rule of law and the vision of our founding fathers for the stability and growth of the party, entrenchment of democracy and wellbeing of Nigerians.

“In this forthcoming 2025 zonal congresses, the SEC aligns with the views and decisions of the South-South PDP Governors’ Forum.

“Finally, the SEC implored all the leaders of the party to be very sacrificial and accommodating of all shades of opinions, interests and aspirations in our drive to elect credible officers to run the affairs of the party in the forthcoming South-South zonal congresses, which would serve as the hallmark for the victory of the party in the South-South zone.”
