The Federal Government has been enjoined to do more than it is presently doing to assuage the weight of hardships occassioned by the state of the national economy.
The immediate past Auditor-General of Kwara State, Mr. Omoniyi Adeyeye, who is newly-elected president of Omu Aran Development Association, ODA, a socio-cultural organisation in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, made the plea in a chat with newsmen after his inauguration.
Omu Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government is the third major town in Kwara State, boasting of big time traders, whose operational base is Lagos. There are others too, who are in the diaspora.
The community also boasts of having retired senior Army personnels including Generals among who was the first governor of Kwara State, late Brigadier General David Bamgboye, as well as renowned religious clerics, including Bishop David Oyedepo of the Winners Chapel fame.
Adeyeye averred that the declining living standard of citizens is disturbing, and calls for concerns, but said he still believed however, that with a little more efforts on the part of the government and the resilience of the citizens, the situation could change for better.
Adeyeye thanked the government, particularly in Kwara State for its pro-active and prompt responses in times of security challenges in Omu Aran area, pointing out however, that government should not rest on its oars because the community is Kwara’s major border town with Osun, Kogi and Ekiti states.
The former Auditor-General, who is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered l Accountants, FCA, charged the youths of today to resist temptations that would make them get involved in or develop criminal tendencies because of the bitter effects of the nation’s present economy.
Speaking on his goals as the association’s new President, Adeyeye said he would strive to ensure that youths are made to place strong priority on their education with special emphasis on girl-child education, as well as giving special attention to the well being of people living with disabilities.
He said he would by the virtue of his office lead harmonious requests to resuscitate good provision of healthy water in the town, which he said had become precarious of late and pay special attention to the public health services, which he also said had for years fallen below standard.
