… Says Tariff Incentive For Improved Power Supply
Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu has appealed to consumers and the general public to protect power infrastructures against vandals, even as the government works towards boosting power supply across Nigeria.
He made the call during a working visit to Calabar Generation Company Limited, a subsidiary of Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, NDPHCL, yesterday in Odukpani, Cross River State.
He said government can only make meaningful achievements in the power sector if consumers and other public spirited individuals appreciate her efforts by reporting vandals to appropriate authorities.
According to Adelabu, who also noted that tariff is an incentive for improved power supply, all hands must be on deck to utilize the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to drive every other critical sectors of the economy.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve to boost the current electricity generation to 6,000 megawatts towards end of the year, adding that this feat is realizable if power infrastructures were free from vandalism.
“What I can promise Nigerians again today is that: we are still scratching the surface. By the time we take the giant steps that are expected of us you will see more improvements in power supply under the administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, to use power to drive other critical sectors of the economy.
“I appeal to electricity consumers and Nigerians in general to be patient and cooperate with the government. We must own every initiative by the government to improve power and not allow vandals draw us back”, he stated in part.
The minister commended the management of Calabar generation company for its exceptional performances in the recent past, saying more was expected from her.
While emphasizing the importance of tariff in the sustenance of every viable business, he expressed optimism for better days ahead regarding generation and distribution of power with the right infrastructures on ground.
“The pricing of any product will determine its sustainability. The tariff has actually catapulted the improvements we see in generation and distribution.
“The DISCOs are now more incentified to do more for their customers. Once the commercial is good; the business will be good”, Adelabu added.
